Sculptor Elizabeth Ritter
Elizabeth Ritter was born in 1940 in Lewistown, Missouri. Born
to farming parents, Ms. Ritter grew up working on the farm, riding horse back and exploring art in her free time. She
attended Oklahoma Baptist University and taught public school art from 1962 through 1995.
Elizabeth has been involved with scuplture since 1980 and has studied
with such accomplished artists as Bruno Lucchessi, Lincoln Fox, George Landon, Chapel, Dan Ostermiller and Phillipe Faraut.
In her work, Ms. Ritter explores a wide range of subject and style.
Her bronzes and Raku pieces are realistic studies of people, wildlife and horses. In 1997, her largest outdoor bronze
to date was permanently installed on the campus of Central Missouri State Universiti in Warrensburg, MO. She is currently
involved in constructing large contemporary draft horses in Raku clay. Her work has garnered many awards, articles and
commissions in bronze and Raku.
Elizabeth's sculptures, whether bronze or clay, miniature or monumental,
have a quality and life all their own. She apporaches her art through her childhood love of creatures and has a rare
talent of portraying the spirit of animals and people in clay and bronze. Her artistic ability and thorough knowledge
of her subjects give her work spontaneity while remaining true to the subject; showing a realism in the accurate renderings
with refined combinatin of line and composition. Ms. Ritter currently maintains a small farm raising Fox Trotting horses
and teaching workshops around the country.
